I have been asked to review the two firewall products to help people know what the differences are and what special features they have. The two products are Zone Alarm® Antivirus and F-Secure internet security for 2008. To begin all firewalls do the same job which means it is a dedicated appliance which runs on a computer to make sure things such as viruses, worms, hackers and spamming emails don’t happen. To start the first product I searched upon was Zone Alarm Antivirus. This firewall Stops viruses before they infect you, continually and constantly protects your PC and Simple to install and run.It Includes antivirus, network and program firewall, operating system firewall, auto-learn, Game Mode, Wireless PC Protection and Email Security. It also has a getting started tutorial and explains controls and alerts. Its size is 205KB.
It costs £39.90 to download from a CD; if you pay £54.80 it will include 12 Month Extended download and Zone Labs Backup Disc. It appearance is quite colourful and has animated icons and is very effective.
Here is what the product looks like.

The second product I looked at was F-Security internet 2008. This firewall protects your computer against threats originating from the internet, anti virus, anti spam, antiphishing, parental control and will provide you with security news. It also protects your privacy when you email, download music, bank or shop online. It also gives you a proactive layer of security that protects you against any unforeseen threats. You can install it easily by CD and it is very easy to use. You can buy this product for £27.96 for a one year license, total download 81.6 MB and can be translated to over 20 languages. Its appearance is also colourful and it to has small animated icons. Here is a picture of the product.

The difference between these tow products are the Zone Alarm Antivirus is more expensive and unfortunately does not have parental control. However they both automatically scan for viruses and get rid of them as soon as there is any virus behaviour. I would recommend the F-Security internet 2008 because it protects the computer against the everyday viruses and has parental control so children will not be able to access sites to do with violence, gambling, drugs or pornography. This product is cheaper than Zone Alarm and can still protect yourself and your computer and keep you updated with security news. You can find out more information on this site- http://www.f-secure.co.uk/.

I then looked at two different filtering products- ScrubIT and Net Nanny. First of all filtering packages get rid of unwanted sites on your computer such as pornography, phishing and many other harmful sites.
You can use ScrubIT at home or in a business so no family or employee member will be approached with unwanted sites. They currently profile several million websites in homes and businesses. It is a free recursive DNS server so all you have to do is download it from your computer. It is the only public server to actively filter pornography. You can find more information buy going to www.ScrubIt.com

The second filtering package I looked at was Cyber Patrol 6. It is a well known package and presents and easy interface that is easy to get to grips with. Cyber control can block chat but can also block you using certain words on chat, though it is quite limited. It also does much of the same at ScrubIT, getting rid of those unwanted sites such as pornography, explicit images, P2P, phishing and chat. This filtering package costs £31.72. Its system requirements are Windows 98SE, Pentium II, and 64MB of Ram and 30MB of disk space. You can find more information by going to www.cyberpatrol.com
